Broccoli, Corn, Eggplant, Ground Cherry, Green Onion, and Root Veggies
Broccoli, eggplant, green onions, and ground cherries are all best planted as transplants. Start seedlings around 6 to 8 weeks before expected last frost and plant out after threat has past. Green onions and broccoli can be planted and transplanted a little bit earlier as they can usually tolerate a light frost. Eggplants and green onions prefer warm temperatures and benefit from being planted in a black fabric. Corn is best directed seeded in a grid pattern after threat of frost has past. Plant seeds 3 to 4" apart in rows that are 12" apart. Direct seed carrots and beets as soon as the ground is thawed. Thin carrots to 1 - 2" apart and beets 3 - 4" to allow for the root to reach optimal size. Both beets and carrots require diligent weeding early on to help ensure success.
